McDonald’s Shirts – History, Tastiness, and Comfort

Posted on January 16, 2014 by Brett Farmiloe

Our McDonald’s shirts are not just a comfortable way to enjoy your next meal. The collection also honors the fast food brand’s history and ability to serve people around the world.

In 1948, brothers Mac and Dick McDonald closed down their barbecue carhop restaurant in San Bernardino, California and reopened it as a self-serve drive-in restaurant. The new restaurant – named McDonald’s – had only nine items on the menu, the most important of which was the hamburger.

A few years later, a salesman named Ray Kroc visited the McDonald’s in San Bernardino and helped the brothers franchise the restaurant. Kroc’s first restaurant opening in Des Plaines, Illinois in 1955 is typically regarded as the beginning of the franchise as it operates today.

Now, 65 years later, McDonald’s restaurants can be found in 119 countries and has become a fast food legend.

We’re celebrating the rich history of the fast food chain with our McDonald’s shirts.

Originally, the mascot of McDonald’s was a man with a hamburger-shaped head and a chef’s hat named Speedee. Speedee represented the chain until Ronald McDonald appeared in 1967. To celebrate Speedee’s devotion, we put his face on these three wonderful McDonald’s shirts. See them in our store: men's royal, men's gray, women's royal

The Shamrock Shake has been a seasonal classic since 1970. But in 1974, McDonald’s partnered with the Philadelphia Eagles to create the first ever Ronald McDonald’s house with profits earned from that year’s Shamrock Shake sales. So not only does the Shamrock Shake look and taste like magic, but it also pioneered an organization that helps families with sick children find a place to stay. With a Shamrock Shake shirt, you can honor the minty greatness of the shake AND celebrate McDonald’s charitable spirit. See them in our store: women's, men's

Introduced in the late 1970s, the Happy Meal has been making children smile for over 30 years. Celebrate the origins of the Happy Meal with this McDonald’s tee!

First introduced in 1982, the McRib has disappeared and reappeared from the McDonald’s menu multiple times since. Its scarcity and its delicious flavor helped the sandwich develop a large following. Honor the tastiness of a McRib and the company that created it with a red McRib tee or a white McRib tee from our McDonald’s collection!

Who knows what else the fast food chain will deliver in the future – but for now, celebrate the company’s history with your own McDonald’s shirts from our collection.
